An Indonesian IP address gives you access to Vidio, RCTI+, Fola Play, MAXStream TV, myBCA, and Mandiri Livin’ from anywhere outside Indonesia. A VPN connected to a Jakarta server is how you get one.
You open Vidio to watch a BRI Super League match and the stream tells you the content is not available in your region. You try logging into myBCA from abroad and the app flags your location. Both problems have the same cause: your public IP address signals your location to every service you reach, and streaming platforms and banking apps use it to enforce restrictions. Connecting through a Jakarta VPN server replaces your visible IP with an Indonesian one.
How to get an Indonesian IP address
The method is a VPN. A VPN connects your device to a server in your chosen country, and destination services see the server’s IP address and location rather than yours. For a full explanation of how a VPN assigns you a foreign IP address and how services detect it, see How to Change Your IP Address Location.
The screenshots below use ProtonVPN for illustration. The steps are the same regardless of which provider you use.
Step 1: Choose a VPN with physical servers in Indonesia
The most important criterion for Indonesia is server location. Jakarta is the right city. Streaming platforms, banking infrastructure, and government systems all route through Jakarta, and Jakarta-based IPs tend to carry better reputations on Indonesian services than virtual Indonesian nodes on hardware located elsewhere.
Before subscribing to any provider, confirm on its server list page that Jakarta appears as a city-level option. Surabaya is available as a secondary city on some providers and works as a fallback. A provider that lists Indonesia without city-level detail may be routing through a virtual Indonesian IP on infrastructure in Singapore or elsewhere; that configuration is acceptable for basic geo-detection but less reliable on platforms with stricter IP-reputation checks such as Vidio.

Step 2: Connect to a Jakarta server
Open your VPN application and search for Indonesia or Jakarta. Select a Jakarta server. Leave WireGuard as the default protocol. If the network you are on blocks the VPN connection, switching to OpenVPN using TCP on port 443 clears most firewall restrictions, because port 443 is the standard HTTPS port that most networks pass without inspection. That technique does not defeat deep packet inspection; networks that apply DPI require genuine obfuscation. See What Is an Obfuscated VPN? for when that applies.

Step 3: Verify your Indonesian IP before opening any service
Before opening Vidio, myBCA, or any other Indonesian service, confirm the connection is working correctly. Navigate to browserleaks.com/ip. The IP address shown should display an Indonesian flag, list Indonesia as the country, and show Asia/Jakarta as the timezone. If any of those fields shows your real location, the connection is not routing through Indonesia.
For a full DNS leak check — confirming that domain-name lookups are also travelling through the encrypted tunnel and not resolving through your home ISP — run the additional test at browserleaks.com/dns. What Is a DNS Leak article explains how this works and how to confirm protection is active.

On Android and iOS
Open your VPN application, search for Indonesia or Jakarta in the server list, select a Jakarta server, and tap connect.
On Android, the first connection triggers a system permission dialog asking you to allow a VPN connection; tap OK or Allow to proceed. A key icon appears in the status bar when the VPN is active. On some Android devices, battery optimisation settings terminate background apps including the VPN when the screen locks; if the connection drops unexpectedly, add the VPN application to your battery optimisation exceptions.

On iOS, the first connection triggers a system dialog asking permission to add a VPN configuration; tap Allow, then authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or your passcode. A VPN label appears in the status bar when the connection is active.
For living-room devices, Vidio has a dedicated Android TV and Google TV application available through the Play Store, so VPN-capable Android TV devices can follow the same process. Samsung smart TVs running Tizen, LG sets running webOS, Apple TV, and Amazon Fire TV do not have a confirmed native Vidio application. For those devices, a router-level VPN is the practical path: configure the VPN connection on your router, and every device on the network receives the Indonesian IP without a separate application needed.
If a service still blocks you
Vidio and RCTI+ block many datacentre and VPN hosting IP ranges. This is not unique to Indonesia; it is how IP-reputation-based detection works on geo-restricted streaming platforms. The IP address your VPN provides is registered to a commercial hosting provider, and those ranges are flagged in IP-intelligence databases regardless of their geographic location. The first action is to switch to a different server in Jakarta. Two servers in the same city can carry different IP reputations and different block-list histories. Disconnect, select a different Jakarta server, reconnect, and retry.
Clear browser cookies or close and fully reopen native apps before retrying after a server switch. Stale session data from a previous connection can prevent access even after the VPN reconnects. The full troubleshooting sequence for persistent blocks is in How to Change Your IP Address Location.
Streaming: Vidio, RCTI+, and what an Indonesian IP unlocks
Indonesian streaming platforms distribute their rights territorially. The same licence covers Indonesia; the content disappears across the border. A VPN with an Indonesian IP address restores access to these services from wherever you are.
Vidio
Vidio is Indonesia’s largest streaming platform and holds the most significant sports rights portfolio in the country.
The BRI Super League is the Indonesian top-flight football competition. It was rebranded from Liga 1 in July 2025. Vidio is the exclusive online streaming home for the Super League; Indosiar, the main free-to-air broadcaster and a fellow Emtek group company, carries selected matches on television. If you followed Indonesian football under the Liga 1 name, the competition continues under the Emtek umbrella on the same platform.
Emtek holds exclusive broadcast rights to the Premier League in Indonesia and Timor-Leste for the 2025-26, 2026-27, and 2027-28 seasons, covering all 380 matches per season. Vidio is the primary streaming outlet. NEX Parabola carries the rights on pay-TV. SCTV and MOJI air selected matches free-to-air. The territory covered by these rights is Indonesia and Timor-Leste, not Indonesia alone.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup is not on Vidio. TVRI, Indonesia’s public broadcaster, holds the broadcast rights and broadcasts 98 matches live and 6 on delay across its terrestrial channels. The digital OTT rights were licensed separately to two official partners: Fola Play (operated by PT Folago Global Nusantara) and Telkomsel’s MAXStream TV. Vidio held the 2022 World Cup rights via Emtek but has no carriage for 2026. If you open Vidio looking for a World Cup fixture, it will not be there.
Fola Play and MAXStream TV are paid, Indonesia-facing services. As platforms designed for the Indonesian market, they are expected to apply territorial geo-restriction in the same way as Vidio and RCTI+, meaning a Jakarta VPN server should be required to access them from abroad. This has not been confirmed from official documentation; treat it as expected behaviour for Indonesia-facing services rather than a documented fact. TVRI’s own digital streaming is also geo-restricted to Indonesia, and its digital carriage rights for the World Cup were assigned to Fola Play and MAXStream. There is no comprehensive free legal stream of the full 104-match tournament for the diaspora; FIFA’s preferred-platform arrangements may allow a limited YouTube window for selected matches.
On VPN access: Vidio, like most geo-restricted platforms, blocks many datacentre and VPN hosting IP ranges. Access is inconsistent and depends on the specific IP reputation of the server you connect to. Jakarta-based servers with physical Indonesian infrastructure tend to perform better than virtual Indonesian nodes on hardware elsewhere, not because Vidio detects virtual servers as a category, but because physical Jakarta IPs cycle through fewer block-lists and accumulate fewer abuse flags over time. If one Jakarta server does not work, try a second before switching service.
Vidio is available on the web, Android, iOS, and via a dedicated Android TV and Google TV application. The platform is widely installed on smart TVs in Indonesia, with approximately 8 million Smart TV and set-top box installs recorded as of December 2024, including preloaded presence on TCL sets. Dedicated Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, Apple TV, and Fire TV applications have not been confirmed from primary sources.
RCTI+
RCTI+ is geo-restricted to Indonesia. Live channels and licensed on-demand content are blocked for non-Indonesian IP addresses. The same server-switching logic applies: if the first Jakarta server does not unlock the stream, switch to a second before assuming access is unavailable.
Disney+, WeTV, and Netflix Indonesia
Disney+ rebranded from Disney+ Hotstar across Indonesia and other Southeast Asian markets on 9 October 2025. The Indonesian library carries a distinct catalogue from other regional versions, reflecting separate licensing arrangements. WeTV operates in Indonesia with per-title regional licensing. Netflix’s Indonesian library differs from other markets due to the same territorial rights structure. All three are subject to standard datacentre IP detection; the server-switching remedy applies equally.
iQIYI International
iQIYI International occupies a different category from Vidio and RCTI+. It is not blanket geo-restricted to Indonesia. iQIYI runs two separate platforms: iQIYI International (intl.iq.com), designed for audiences outside mainland China, and iQIYI China (iq.com), restricted to Chinese IP addresses. Indonesian users access the international version. Some titles within iQIYI International carry per-title regional licensing that may restrict them to specific countries, but the service itself does not require an Indonesian IP to use. Do not group iQIYI International with Vidio and RCTI+ when diagnosing an access problem: if a specific iQIYI International title is unavailable in your current location, the title’s regional licence is the constraint, and an Indonesian IP may or may not resolve it depending on where that title is licensed.
| Service | Geo-restricted to Indonesia? | VPN typically works? |
|---|---|---|
| Vidio (live and licensed content) | Yes (Indonesia; Premier League rights also cover Timor-Leste) | Usually — switch Jakarta servers if blocked |
| Fola Play / MAXStream TV (World Cup 2026) | Expected yes (Indonesia-facing services) | Expected — geo-restriction not confirmed from primary source |
| RCTI+ (live and licensed content) | Yes | Usually — switch Jakarta servers if blocked |
| Disney+ | Library-level differences | Usually |
| WeTV | Per-title | Usually |
| Netflix | Library-level differences | Usually |
| iQIYI International | No (globally accessible) | N/A |
Indonesian banking abroad: myBCA, Mandiri Livin’, and what the friction actually is
Both BCA and Bank Mandiri designed their mobile applications for overseas use, and neither applies a foreign-IP geo-block on login. The friction in Indonesia is not the bank’s policy toward overseas customers; it is the hosting IP addresses that VPN providers use, which fraud detection systems flag as elevated risk regardless of the country those addresses map to. This is a different situation from some banking setups that carry a pre-departure constraint: Maybank’s Secure2u in Malaysia requires ATM activation before leaving the country, a step that cannot be completed from abroad. See How to Get a Malaysian IP Address for that detail.
myBCA
Bank Central Asia is Indonesia’s largest private bank by assets. BCA’s own guidance confirms that myBCA can be accessed from abroad without re-verification or geographical restrictions, provided the app remains installed on the same registered phone and the registered mobile number is reachable.
If myBCA is installed on a new phone, or reinstalled on the same phone after deletion, re-verification is required. This process supports international mobile numbers: BCA customers abroad can register a non-Indonesian number to receive the one-time password. The re-verification is completable entirely from abroad without an ATM visit or branch visit. Two caveats apply. BCA’s international OTP support covers a list of supported countries, not every country worldwide; check BCA’s current supported-countries list before relying on this from an unsupported location. Adding a mobile number that has never previously been linked to the account involves more friction than switching to a number that is already registered.
The more common source of difficulty overseas is the VPN IP itself, not BCA’s overseas policy. When a login arrives from a hosting provider’s IP range, which is the type of address VPN providers use, fraud detection systems flag it as elevated risk. Retail banking customers almost never connect from commercial datacentre networks, so the mismatch raises the risk score automatically. Switching to a different Jakarta server is the first remedy: different servers carry different IP histories and fraud-risk profiles. For a full explanation of how hosting IPs are classified and why banking fraud systems respond to them this way, see How to Change Your IP Address Location.
If you need both a streaming service and myBCA running at the same time, split tunneling is a practical solution. Split tunneling lets you route selected applications through the VPN while others connect directly through your local internet connection. Configure your streaming application to use the Indonesian VPN tunnel, and exclude myBCA from the tunnel entirely. myBCA then connects via your local ISP’s residential or mobile IP, which fraud systems treat as a normal consumer connection. Indonesian banks do not apply foreign-IP geo-blocks, so the direct connection functions correctly regardless of where you are located.
One security note applies specifically to KlikBCA Bisnis, BCA’s corporate internet banking product. BCA has officially warned that fraudulent KlikBCA Bisnis sites are promoted through paid search engine advertisements. These phishing sites prompt for the Corporate ID, User ID, and KeyBCA token responses (Appli 1 for login authorisation and Appli 2 for transaction authorisation). A documented case in January 2026 resulted in a business customer losing approximately Rp500 million in payroll funds after reaching a fake site through a Google search. BCA’s official guidance is to navigate directly to www.klikbca.com or www.bca.co.id rather than accessing KlikBCA Bisnis through a search engine.
Mandiri Livin’ and other Indonesian banks
Bank Mandiri is Indonesia’s largest bank by total assets and is state-owned. Its mobile banking application, Livin’ by Mandiri, has been marketed for overseas use since October 2022. Foreign mobile numbers are supported for SMS OTP. No foreign-IP geo-block on login has been documented. The hosting-IP fraud flag is the same friction point as with myBCA, and the same server-switching remedy applies.
BNI and BRI, Indonesia’s other major state-owned banks, follow the same general pattern. BNI rebranded its mobile banking application as wondr by BNI on 5 July 2024. Shortly after launch, BNI positioned wondr explicitly for overseas use through its “wondr is everywhere” international campaign in late 2024, confirming that wondr works from abroad with foreign mobile numbers. BRImo, BRI’s mobile banking application, supports overseas onboarding and access in 15 countries, covering the major Indonesian diaspora hubs including Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan, the UAE, and the United States. Neither bank has documented foreign-IP login blocks; the hosting-IP fraud-detection friction is the same as with myBCA.
Inside Indonesia and abroad: why Indonesians use VPN in both directions
Komdigi, the Ministry of Communication and Digital, enforces domestic content blocks that make Indonesia unusual among VPN destination countries: diaspora abroad need a VPN to enter Indonesia’s geo-fenced content, while Indonesians at home need one to reach services their own government has restricted. VPN use runs in both directions simultaneously.
Komdigi was known as Kominfo, the Ministry of Communication and Informatics, until 20 October 2024, when President Prabowo Subianto’s cabinet reorganisation renamed it Kementerian Komunikasi dan Digital. The ministry’s official domain is komdigi.go.id. It operates under Ministerial Regulation 5/2020, which requires digital platforms to register as Electronic System Operators and comply with content removal requirements. Services that do not register or fail to comply face blocking.
Three services remain blocked. Reddit and Vimeo have been blocked since 2014 under Indonesia’s TrustPositif content-filtering system, originally over obscenity concerns; neither has been restored. DuckDuckGo blocking was first detected on 29 July 2024 and publicly confirmed by Kominfo on 2 August 2024, with officials citing complaints about gambling and pornography content appearing in search results. DuckDuckGo confirmed the block and reported no mechanism to challenge it. No reversal has been reported for any of the three.
Not all blocks are permanent. Steam, PayPal, and Yahoo were blocked in July 2022 when Ministerial Regulation 5/2020’s registration deadline came into force. All three completed registration with Komdigi within days and regained access. The same path is open to any service blocked under that regulation.
In 2024 Komdigi announced plans to block free VPN applications as part of a wider crackdown on online gambling. No ban was implemented; free VPN applications remain accessible in Indonesia.
| Your situation | Goal | VPN server needed |
|---|---|---|
| Outside Indonesia | Access Vidio, RCTI+, myBCA, and other Indonesian services | Jakarta (Indonesian server) |
| Inside Indonesia | Reach blocked services such as Reddit, DuckDuckGo, or Vimeo | Foreign server (US, UK, or any country where the service is accessible) |
For anyone currently inside Indonesia trying to reach blocked services: an Indonesian VPN server does not solve this problem. Routing your traffic through a server inside Indonesia keeps it within the country’s regulated network; the blocks apply regardless. To reach Reddit, DuckDuckGo, or other blocked services, you need a server outside the country.
Komdigi operates a national DPI-based content-filtering system across Indonesia’s major mobile ISPs, used to enforce its website blocklist. This is content-level filtering, not VPN-protocol blocking; standard VPN protocols such as WireGuard and OpenVPN generally function on Indonesian networks. On institutional networks (university, corporate) or during periods of political unrest when circumvention tools have been temporarily restricted, a VPN with obfuscation capability provides an additional layer of resilience. See What Is an Obfuscated VPN? for how obfuscation works.
Is using a VPN legal in Indonesia?
Using a VPN is legal for individual users in Indonesia. The primary governing law is the Electronic Information and Transactions Law, known in Indonesian as Undang-Undang Informasi dan Transaksi Elektronik or UU ITE (Law No. 11 of 2008). The law was most recently amended by Law No. 1 of 2024, promulgated on 2 January 2024. That amendment addresses electronic certification, child protection provisions, defamation, and distribution of false information. It contains no provisions restricting or prohibiting individual VPN use.
A VPN does not provide legal immunity for the underlying activity. Accessing content that is independently illegal under Indonesian law, such as online gambling or pornography, via VPN still carries liability for the offence. The VPN changes your apparent network location; it does not change the legal status of what you are accessing.
Using a VPN to watch Vidio, access myBCA, or use Mandiri Livin’ from abroad carries no legal risk under Indonesian law.
Frequently asked questions
Can I watch the BRI Super League on Vidio from outside Indonesia?
Yes, with a VPN connected to a Jakarta server. Vidio holds the exclusive streaming rights for the BRI Super League. Connect to a Jakarta server before opening Vidio. If the first server does not unlock the stream, switch to a second Jakarta server before concluding that access is unavailable.
Can I watch the 2026 FIFA World Cup from abroad?
Yes, but not through Vidio. TVRI holds the 2026 World Cup rights in Indonesia and broadcasts 98 matches live and 6 on delay across its terrestrial channels. The official OTT streaming partners for digital access are Fola Play (operated by PT Folago Global Nusantara) and Telkomsel’s MAXStream TV. Vidio carried the 2022 World Cup but does not carry 2026. Connect to a Jakarta server, then open either Fola Play or MAXStream TV. As Indonesia-market services, both are expected to require an Indonesian IP address, though this has not been confirmed from official documentation. If the stream does not load on the first server, switch to a second Jakarta server and retry.
Can I access myBCA from abroad without returning to Indonesia?
Yes. BCA’s own guidance confirms that myBCA can be accessed from abroad without re-verification as long as the app remains on the same registered device and the registered number is reachable. There is no IP geo-block on myBCA login. If a VPN IP triggers a fraud alert, switch to a different Jakarta server. Alternatively, use split tunneling to route myBCA through your local internet connection directly while keeping your streaming service on the Indonesian VPN tunnel.
What if I install myBCA on a new phone while already abroad?
Re-verification is required, but it is completable from abroad. BCA supports international mobile numbers for the one-time password sent during re-verification, so you do not need an Indonesian SIM card or an ATM visit. Check BCA’s current supported-countries list to confirm your country is covered before starting. If the number you want to register has never been linked to your account before, expect additional steps in the verification process.
Can I get an Indonesian IP address for free?
Some VPN providers offer free tiers that include Indonesian servers. Server capacity limits reduce reliability during peak times, and for Indonesian streaming, peak time means Super League match days, Premier League weekends, and World Cup fixtures. Free tiers typically impose data caps that interrupt longer streams before they finish. For anything involving financial credentials, the trust consideration matters more than the cost: the traffic passing through a free VPN is fully visible to its operator, and many free services recover their infrastructure costs through data collection rather than subscriptions. For banking and anything involving account credentials, a paid provider with an independently audited no-log policy is the appropriate choice.
What is Komdigi and what has it blocked?
Komdigi (the Ministry of Communication and Digital, renamed from Kominfo in October 2024) is Indonesia’s internet regulator. It enforces a content blocklist and requires digital platforms to register with the government. Services currently blocked include Reddit (since 2014), Vimeo (since 2014), and DuckDuckGo (since July 2024). Steam, PayPal, and Yahoo were blocked in 2022 but restored access after completing registration.
Is DuckDuckGo still blocked in Indonesia?
Yes. DuckDuckGo has been blocked in Indonesia since July 2024; Kominfo cited complaints about gambling and pornography content in search results. No reversal has been reported. Indonesian users wanting to reach DuckDuckGo need a VPN connected to a server outside Indonesia. Connecting to an Indonesian server will not help.
Is using a VPN legal in Indonesia?
Yes. Individual VPN use is legal under Indonesian law. The ITE Law, most recently amended in January 2024, contains no VPN-restricting provisions. Using a VPN to watch Vidio, access myBCA, or use other Indonesian services from abroad carries no legal risk under Indonesian law. A VPN does not provide legal immunity for accessing content that is independently illegal.
What happened to Mola TV?
Mola ceased operations in Indonesia on 31 December 2025 and is no longer accessible. It previously held Premier League streaming rights in Indonesia for the 2019 to 2022 cycle. Those rights passed to Emtek (Vidio) from the 2022-23 season, and Emtek extended the agreement through the 2027-28 season. Any guide or article listing Mola as a current Indonesian streaming option is out of date.
Why does watching the World Cup abroad cost money if TVRI broadcasts it for free?
TVRI’s free-to-air coverage is free for viewers inside Indonesia receiving the terrestrial television signal. It does not translate into free streaming for viewers abroad. TVRI’s own digital streaming is geo-restricted to Indonesia and does not carry World Cup matches; those digital rights were licensed to Fola Play and MAXStream TV. Both are paid services. There is no comprehensive free legal stream of the full 104-match tournament available to the diaspora, though FIFA’s preferred-platform arrangements may allow a limited YouTube window for selected matches.
Do I need an Indonesian SIM card to access myBCA from abroad?
No. BCA supports international mobile numbers for the OTP required during re-verification on a new device, so an Indonesian SIM is not needed. If the app is still installed on the same registered device you used in Indonesia, re-verification is not required at all. The caveat: BCA’s international OTP support covers a list of supported countries, not every country worldwide, so check BCA’s current supported-countries list before starting if you are unsure whether your location is covered.
